You can do something similar with sticky notes in Paperpile but I did like that option. One thing I do miss about the paper-reading experience from Mendeley - you could take notes in a box on the side. I was an early tester of the Word integration and that seemed to have some issues, but it's been a while since I used it in Word, it might be better now. I've had some glitches with the display a few times (the side bar wouldn't show up correctly). But I like it so much for storing and reading that it's worth it to me. When it comes to actually creating a bibliography, I have had more issues with citations actually being correct with Paperpile than with Endnote.Īn obvious downside is Paperpile costs money, while Mendeley and Zotero are free, at least last I checked. I definitely find it to be the least clunky citation management system in terms of finding, saving, and reading papers. Paperpile is definitely my favorite for easy cloud-based pdf management, as well as integration with Google scholar and Google docs (which I had been using for a long time before trying Paperpile). I used to use Mendeley and have used EndNote as well. I have been using Paperpile for about two and a half years. Tiddlywiki is a general knowledge management concept that takes into account non-directed graphs and multiple relationships I think this is directly applicable to reference management system. Currently with Apple pencil and other handwriting devices with or without e-Ink are capturing a major fraction of students, faculties as well as researchers in both academia and engineering such as computer science, manufacturing.

I have a general suggestion for the design and aesthetic team. Lack of desktop app is very much desired. I like annotations, hand-written notes on pdf. I have stayed with Paperpile more many different reasons but, most importantly the promptness with which your team listens to our feedbacks and problems.
